Vertigo & balance
Equicog VNG++
VNG – Videonystagmography
Video goggles record eye movements to find the cause of vertigo.
- No pain
- No needles
- Done in clinic
What it is
You wear special video goggles. Cameras record your eye movements while you follow lights on a screen and while your head and body positions are changed.
Why it is done
The inner ear and the eyes are closely connected. Abnormal eye movements (nystagmus) show whether vertigo is coming from the inner ear or the brain, and from which side. It is very useful for diagnosing BPPV.
How to prepare
Avoid eye make-up (kajal, mascara). Avoid a heavy meal just before the test. Stop dizziness medicines only if the doctor tells you to. It helps to bring a family member. [CONFIRM instructions with doctor]
How long it takes: [CONFIRM duration with doctor]
Is it painful?
No. It is a non-invasive test with no needles. You may feel briefly dizzy during some position changes; this settles quickly.
